Serving Southcentral Iowa in Corydon & Leon
Cindy earned her Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner from University of Iowa in 2005. Cindy knew from her first semester of Registered Nurse education, at Indian Hills Community College in 1995, she desired to be a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her goals were set, and achieved, with the help of her husband, Mark, in providing and caring for their three young sons from the onset of the plan. Cindy absorbed every facet of her nursing career as a nurse to catapult her into the role ultimately of a nurse practitioner with many hours spent in the areas of Medical Surgical, Intensive Care, Skilled Nursing Emergency, Surgical/Operating Room, Ambulance/EMS as Nurse Exemption Role, IV therapy, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
After spending years frontline in nursing, as well as in management roles, that progressed from Shift Charge Nurse, to Departmental Manager, to Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer, the time came to finish the goal set and complete the education to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. The completion of the goal again meant family sacrifices at times, with the hours spent commuting two hours and 45 minutes each way to Iowa City and overnight stays in Iowa City at times with the schedule needed. However, many days it was leaving Corydon at 4:45 am for 8 am classes, or clinical experiences, and home at 10 pm or later same day, ultimately the goal was achieved.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, you define your professional path on your personal and professional experiences both, and intertwine your deep-rooted beliefs. Cindy has taken her experiences and developed a compassionate, sometime empathetic, delivery of care that is modeled from evidenced based information, but realizes at the same time the science is yet to be fully known with the changing aspects of the world. Even though few would disagree, if any, that Cindy is a provider of humbled and true value in the health care spectrum. Covid 19 brought a deeper processing of the role to be navigated. Without a doubt she feels she came out from such a time in the world on top. Rather than be consumed by it after experiencing a prolonged illness course with Covid 19 herself, and then caring for those impacted from it as well physically and mentally from mild to severe symptoms.
A health care provider with experience in a multitude of areas: family practice in primary care setting, ambulatory urgent care, occupational medicine, emergency care, wound care, focused Covid 19 care, telemedicine/virtual care, and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy/Treatment gives a diverse, solid knowledge base to provide stellar care to the patients and clients in her care, whether for single encounters or multiple.
Life experiences impact the path of a person often...maybe always. Personal and professional experiences build a person. Experiences can be good, bad, enlightening, scary, disappointing, amazing...but at the end of the day you get to decide the impact it has on you. Treat each patient as you would want yourself, or a close family member, to be cared for. You will never do wrong by doing right in the moment at your best ability. Foundations give stability to support that which reside over it. Smile and be happy as much as you can in life.
Make the most of your dash.
